In these questions, we explore important parts of a personality just as we would observe the different parts that make up a tree. Each of the different tree parts is used as a metaphor to get to know each other better. Being in nature allows people to feel relaxed and they find it easier to share their thoughts and feelings.

Instructions.

Did you know that trees are secretly talking to each other?

The fungi-tree relationship actually connects trees in a forest together thus forming an underground communication network to exchange water and nutrients., nurture seedlings, and even send warning signals when under a threat to form the “Wood Wide Web”. Scientists have found that one hub tree can be connected to 47 other trees! Even though we may not be able to “talk” to trees, the least we can do is to try to understand their language! Through this activity, we hope to understand the language of trees by indirectly connecting with trees through metaphors and relating it back to our personality.

  1. Start by looking at the birds & friends think about: What are the places you’d like to travel to?

  2. Now look at the leaves: think about What gives you energy / What takes away energy?

  3. See the branches/canopy and think of: Who are the people you are closest to or most connected to?

  4. When you take a look at the tree trunk think of: What are your strengths/weaknesses?

  5. You saw some roots on the ground: What do you value in life or What keeps you grounded?

  6. You pick up some fruits, think about: dreams/things you love doing or you wish to accomplish?

  7. Finally, you see some seeds: What are the things you wish to leave behind? / What you would like to be remembered for?

  8. Well done for completing “Relationship with Trees”! You’ve done well in improving your mental wellness for the day! Please do remember to write down your thoughts and feelings at the end of this activity! Goodbye!
